Play on Words

I was just flipping throught the channels on tv and noticed the movie "An American Tail" was on. For all of you that are not familiar with this movie, its a cartoon movie made by Steven Spielberg in 1986. It is about a Russian mouse who's family decides to emigrate to America because they believe there are no Cats there. There is a Cameo by Dom Deluise in this movie.

Anyway, thats not what I am blogging about. Today for the first time ever, I noticed the name of the movie is "An American Tail" and not "An American Tale". I can't believe that for pretty much my whole life (I remember watching this when I was like 3) I never noticed that the title of the movie was a play on words. Mad props to Steven Spielberg for that one. Hilarious, I must be completely oblivious sometimes.

It's been a while

Its almost a week since I last blogged. Nothing really has happened in my life this week worth blogging. Just another boring week of work.

The last few days have sucked bad for me though. I unfortunately got sick, like a lot of other people I know. Yea its bullshit being sick. Left work early on Friday and slept like the whole day. Spent Saturday in bed because I could not move until about 4:30pm.

The one thing I did have time to do this weekend and end of week was watch a lot of movies. I decided to watch all movies I have never seen before. I ended up watching 6 movies, now its time to talk about my feelings toward these movies.

Here's the list:

A History of Violence

Serenity

Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix

Akira

Hard Candy

Just to prove I don't hate on movies, this list encompasses quite a lot of different genre's of movies.

So lets start with

A History of Violence

I would consider this a Mafia based Drama movie. It's about a man, Tom, who runs a diner in a small town somewhere in the Midwest. One day two men come in and try to hold the place up, and Tom accidentally kills the two men trying to save the people in the diner. Well the fame that this brings also brings enemies. A week or two after, a man comes in the diner, and accuses Tom of having a past with a mob boss in Phily.

Well I'm not gonna tell you how it ends, so watch it.

I have to say, I liked the movie a bit. I don't know if I didn't love it because this movie was so hyped up to me, or if it really wasnt that good.

The acting led by Viggo Mortgensen was moderate, nothing outstanding but nothing devasting.
The reason I didn't like it so much is the way it was paced. There is absolutely no foreshadowing of what is going to happen next, not that that is bad. The movie had three significant dramatic, climactic sequences, and build up to each. But they were all completely separate. So once the climactic sequence ended, technically the movie could have ended there and no one would wonder what would happen next.

Overall, I would give the movie a B.
It was definetely entertaining, but lacked cohesion that would keep the viewer wanting more.

And Next

Serenity

Serenity is Sci-Fi, Fantasy movie about a Space crew trying to save a girl from an evil alliance. For all you Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fans, this movie was written by Joss Whedon and follows the story of the shortlived TV Series, Firefly, which I have never seen. The basic plot here surrounds the same case as the show Firefly, and takes places I think I read like 2 months after the series ends.

I found this movie extremely entertaining. The cast was funny, and relatively good at acting. There were plenty of action scenes to keep you going and the plot worked well. For a person who never watched Firefly, there were a few things that took a while to understand and the story kind of jumps you in under the assumption that you should already know the cast of the series. But once you get past that, this movie has plenty of entertainment value. Of course it is a Sci-Fi Fantasy movie and I would only recommend to people who like these type of movies. Also recommend to fans of Buffy or Angel, and of course Firefly.

I would give this movie a B+
Not everyday a Sci-Fi action movie can be basic enough to pull in viewers of non Sci Fi movies.

Note: It actually took me many weeks to watch this movie. It was on tv one day a few weeks ago and I watch like a half hour before falling asleep, because it always seems to on only late at night. Ended up slowly watchin more and more and falling asleep, so it probably took me about 6 sittings to finish, and the last sitting I actually borrowed the DVD from my roomate, so that I could finish it.

Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire

Teh 4th installment of the Harry Potter series follows Harry as he seems to be growing up faster and faster, dude like 20 now, playing a 14 yr old. Someone enters him into a wizard tournament and he is forced to participate.

I'm not a huge Harry Potter fan and have not read any of the book, but I generally find the movies entertaining. This movie follows as well. I found this movie had enough story as well as fun elements to keep the viewer very entertained. It's more of a bright fun movie for the majority and in the end it changes the atmosphere to a very dark story, and it works. The acting is as usual, cant really expect much more from it. I enjoyed this more than the 2nd but and maybe more than the 3rd, but I still liked the 1st the most.

I grade this A-
Typically Happy Potter, fun for the whole family.

Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix
This Harry Potter follow Harry through darker days of his life. It takes place shortly after the previous enstallment and focuses on Harry Potter and his inner demons.

I was not too thrilled with this movie. There were way to many annoying politcal and media elements that were not the easiest to understand, especially if you are not very familiar with the Harry Potter Series. This movie was much darker than the previous ones, and I don't think it works that well with the characters. The movie struggles with attempting to finding some family elements and balancing it with the dark elements. It doesn't work quite well, in my opinion. The family elements are too few and far between and they end up just being a nuisance. I also believe that it is becoming harder for a lot of the actors to pull off these more powerful roles than in the previous films. This movie also lacked a main plot arch. The battle with Harry and himself was not as prominent as it could have been, and it seems like the rest of the plot was filled with just about nothingness. Maybe I have to be a Harry Potter fan to enjoy this film more.

I give it a B-.
I have trouble giving it lower than that, since it didn't bore me.

Akira

The first time I have seen one of the most famous Japanese Anime movies of all time. I believe this movie was released in the late 80s. Its about a post apocalyptic Tokyo, and a biker gang that gets themselves involved in something much bigger than them. And of course Telekinesis.

I am not really a fan of Japanese Anime movies, or shows. They are generally way too complicated, and you hard to understand. Well this film wasn't that much different. It's typical, in my opinion, for Animes to focus strongly on character development and supernatural elements rather than a main plot. The actually main plot could probably take like 2 minutes to explain because thats how simple it is, but when they add all the filler in with these side stories and things that i just dont understand. Too much Japanese politics and supernatural BS going on. If you asked me if I liked it, I may not be able to answer, so I'll reason my way through it. I was entertained. I was confused. I probably would watch it again. I guess I would have to give it a positive grade, because I thought it was a kinda cool story.

I'll give it a B
If you like Jap Anime's you'll love this movie. Too bad I'm not a big fan.

And last but definetely not least
Hard Candy

This movie is so good that I really don't wanna spoil it too much. Ellen Page, the girl from Juno, plays a 14yr old girl, that is about to meet a 32yr old man that she met on the internet. Thats all you need to know, cause you need to see this.

The acting is Superb in this. If you thought the acting in Juno was good, you really need to see Ellen Page in this, she should have won awards for this. The directing and camera management really added to the atmosphere of the movie. The plot was simple enough and engaging enough to keep the audiences intrigued. This is definetely a movie aimed for adults. The movie really gives you exactly what you wouldn't expect in the situation its in. If you havent seen this movie, please do.

I give this movie an A
See this movie.

And thats all. I need to work on my critics skills, so Ill probably start reading more RottenTomatoes and work on those skills.

Dwight Howard 2008 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest

Superman and my trip to Space 212

Now, Watch me You...

(Crank Dat Soulja Boy)

Now, Watch me You...

As much as I hate that song, its appearance on Saturday Night seemed to be dissipated by the amazing events that occurred.

As you all should know by now, I have been stuffing Dwight Howard dunk videos down everyones throat since I started my blog.

So part 1 of this blog is me recapping All-Star Saturday Night.

Part 2 will be my trip to the city.

All-Star Saturday Night Recap, yeah yeah.

All-Star Saturday Night is composed of 4 separate all-star competitions

Shooting Stars

A current NBA player, a WNBA player, and a former NBA player from each respective city (4 cities) try to make a shot from 6 specific spots on the court in the shortest amount of time, ending with a half court shot.

Skills Competition

4 NBA players try to complete an obstacle course in shortest amount of time.

3pt Shootout

6 Players try to make as many 3pters they can from 5 spots(5 balls per spot) around the 3pt line

And finally,

The Dunk Contest

4 players perform crazy and original dunks in order to wow the crowd and be crowded the annual king of the Dunk Contest

Since I don't really care much about the Shooting Stars Competition, I'll note that the San Antonio Team (Tim Duncan, David Robinson, and Becky Hammon) took the crown. Not only did they have the team with the "worst" shooters, because Duncan and Robinson are Centers but this just proves these two guys are born winners.

The Skills Competition should be noted for two things. 1. A battle of two of the best up and coming point guards (Chris Paul and Deron Williams) and 2. Dwyane Wades embarrasment.

Chris Paul and Deron Williams duke it out to complete the obstacle course in the shortest amount of time. Deron Williams wins the battle by breaking the Contests time record.

However, the highlight of this competition is Dwyane Wade completely embarrasing himself. He starts the competition by dribbling the ball off his foot. Everyone knew it was over from there. Then at the end when all the player has to do is make a lay up or dunk the ball, Wade misses not one, but two lay ups. It was just utter embarrasment, and just two short years ago, this guy was NBA Finals MVP.

The 3pt shootout isnt the most exciting competition, but its entertaining to watch none the less. The winner is Jason Kapono, who is known for just about nothing except he can hit 3s and he won last year. Well boy can he hit 3s, cause in the Final Round of the Competition he tied the Competition Record by scoring 25 out of a possible 30 points. Good Job.

Now for the highlight of the night.................THE SLAM DUNK CONTEST

Competitors:

Jamario Moon
Rudy Gay
Gerald Green (last years winner) and
Dwight Howard

So we all should know who I want to win. My current favorite NBA player, who currently leads my favorite NBA team to their best season in like quite a long time. Mother Fuckin Dwight Howard, bitches.

Now in the past The Dunk Contest has fallen off in presitge. From the awful wheel of dunks, to just lack of originality.

Last year, Gerald Green won, by leaping a Table and dunking the ball. Dwight Howard was in that competition too, but lost in the first round by completely confusing the judges.

Dwight Howard received an alley-oop from teammate jameer nelson and placed a sticker on the top left corner of the backboard and dunked the ball. Too bad the judges only saw a lackluster alley-oop from a teamate and not the sticker. Apology accepted.

This years competition is probably the toughest I have seen in a while. However, that doesn't mean the dunks were any good.

This year focused on originality.

Jamario Moon and Rudy Gay started it out with some so-so dunks that I have seen before, nothing new, nothing special. Now its Dwight's turn.

So standing behing the backboard he toses to ball off the backboard and windmills it in jumping from behind the glass to the front. See ya later, Iguodala, your dunk has been perfected.

***The Crowd goes wild***

Now its Gerald Green's turn. He states on camera that this dunk is called the birthday cake. This was by far the most original dunk of the contest. Green, assisted by teamate, takes a cupcake and puts it on the back of the rim, puts a candle in and lights it.

As he is going to dunk the ball, he blows out the candle. Very creative, definetely worthy dunk.

So now its Gay's turn again. He does an ok dunk, by having his teamate throw the ball of the back of the rim and Gay catching and dunking it.

Moon goes, he starts by placing a piece of tape down like a foot behind the foul like. The farther anyone has ever dunked is from the foul line. So now everyone is super excited, there is no way he can jump from that far. Turns out they are right, he couldn't he jumped about a foot inside the foul line and dunked it. We'll that unfortunately did not please the judges and received a lower score than deserved.

Gerald Green goes and does a kinda safety alley-oop dunk from a teamate, earns enough points from the judges to take over first place edging Moon out.

Now its time for Dwight Howard's second dunk. The crowd is already excited. Dwight and Jameer place a piece of tape down about a foot in front of the foul line. Now thats been done before, however Dwight is 6'11" and weight like 275. No player of his size has dunked from this far. But, wait, Jameer has something in his hands, its a......Superman Cape. *Confused looks*

Dwight Howard takes his jersey off and underneath, low and behold, hes wearing a Superman costume. The crowd goes completely nuts, players and fans are laughing and are excited as hell.

Dwight Howard runs from about half court jumps at the tape and catches the ball from Jameer Nelson and throws it down, uh literally. This dunk looked so awesome, Dwight jumped high as hell, caught the ball in one hand and (almost) dunked it. He was probably a few inches from the rim, but yeah in fast motion it looked like a dunk. This "dunk" is now one of the most watched youtube videos and probably will be on posters and billboards for the rest of Dwight Howard's career. Shit was awesome.

Now, Watch me You...
(Crank Dat Soulja Boy)
Now, Watch me You...

Well that got him into the finals easily, going against reigning champ Gerald Green.

Well it really doesn't even matter what Gerald Green did in this round, so I won't even talk about it.

Dwight first dunk of the round, was a difficult dunk that has never been performed in a dunk contest before.

Dwight bounced the ball, and while in midair slapped the ball against the glass with his left hand and dunked it with his right. Awesome dunk, and basically locked the dunk contest win.

Dwight had one more dunk where he placed a minihoop on the glass and put a basketball on top of the minihoop. As he jumped he grabbed the ball and did a windmill. He had already won at this point so it didn't matter.

And the fans voted 78% Dwight Howard with the Dunk Contest Win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Video will be posted above!

Part 2 Going to Outer "Space 212"

Due to Dwight Howard's Dunk Contest win I wore my Orlando Magic sweatband on my arm for support for the rest of the night.

Alright, time to leave my humble abode and have some fun, already feeling good. Got directions to go to some persons house for my friend MG's bday.

Get there and feeling a little weird as I walk in to a random person's house and their parents are there. Ha, quickly said hello and walked by, like I wasn't feeling awkward about the fact that I didn't and still don't know whos house this is.

Say, hello to my friends and go down to the basement. Thats where all my peeps are at. MG, Bobby Digital, Spider Man, Sigma Freud and K-Man among others. Ha, I love using these nicknames.

We chill out for a bit, and someone decides, lets go to the city, to this place Space 212. Ha, I'm totally down as usual, even though its now 12 at night.

And we're off.

Finally we get to the city and Spider-Man gets a pimp ass parking spot right in front of the place. Sick shit.

The place is kind of a lounge type place, with an Asian swing, lol. Not much to it, everyone sits on a couch type thing with a table in the middle. Hot little asian waitresses come by and give you drink and shots and shit, and thats all there is too it.

Well as we are walking in, there is this kid standing in my way, doin the Soulja Boy dance, over and over again, for like the whole song. Keep in mind this place is tiny, and this is the only kid standing up. I just laughed and walked right by him, as I'm singing..

Now, Watch me You...
(Crank Dat Soulja Boy)
Now, Watch me You...

Or not...

We sit down and chill, get some drink for a few hours and celebrate MG's bday Space 212 style, Fo sho.

We'll mid way through some kid starts like picking up our jackets and looking at them. Everyone at our table has the bewildered look. Its not like our jackets are hung up or anything, they are behind us on our couch.

Fuck yo Couch

So this kid keeps looking at our stuff and walking around to the opposite side and looking at more of our stuff. So after like one two looks we say something to the kid. Apparently he lost his jacket, but we could tell this fucker is drunk.

So I says to him, "If you wanna look at our stuff, you could fuckin ask us. " Gives a slight apology and tries to talk to us or something. We Isoed him out and he kinda kept looking at our jackets. I wasn't mad, but the kid was weird, and being disrespectful. Almost had to knock the kid out, out of principle.

Anyway, that shit ends, and after a while we leave.

We are in two cars, so we say goodbye to the other group. Now its me, Spider-Man, Sigma Freud, Bobby Digital, and K-Man.

K-Man wants to go to this place Platters, that serves Hallal food. Everyone is down, although I don't wanna eat anything (and don't)

So we get there and there is a pretty long line. Something that may rival lines in Phily for the Cheesesteak places.

As we are waiting on line, we are kinda bored and cold. Spider-Man decides this is a good time to start singing. So after a nice acapella number, (can't remember what song) he starts singing Smash Mouth. Within a minute we have like 4 other people joining in with us singing this awful awful song, right in the middle of NYC, lol.

When that songs ends, Spider-Man decides its time to start singing his favorite song, "Like a Prayer" and does.

We all join in again, as does another 10 people. Now there are like 15 people standing in this line singing Like a Prayer at 3 in the morning. Awesome.

Everyone gets their food, and we are off.

While in the Lincoln Tunnel on our way back, there is traffic. Why is there traffic in the Tunnel at 4 am.

Well, K-man decides to get out of the car and jog with us as we travel through the tunnel. Hilarious! I wonder what the otehr cars were thinking.

Anyway, after a nice nap we finally get back. I don't get home til after 6am.

I had tickets to Rutgers basketball game, but after getting home at 6am I decided not to go.

Sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Valentines Day at......Old Bay

My friends had this idea to go to out on Valentines Day night. You know, to find all the lonely girls that are looking for that special someone, lol.

I am usually down for anything, so I was in.

After numerous cancellations, Spider-Man, Sigma Freud and I decided to go to New Brunswick. We did not want to go to far, cause of course Sigma and I had work the next morning.

We drove into the Brunz in order to find a bar to go to. We decided to go to Old Bay.

I usually hate Old Bay. I have never liked it, and never once had a good time there. It's not set up well and its always crowded.

Well this was the first time I actually had a good time, and big props to Spider-Man for making it happen.

If you have ever gone out with Spider-Man, you know that he always brings the most attention, which he did, in a good way.

So we go over to the minature sized dance floor, which isnt even really a dance floor, just some tables moved out of the way in front of the DJ. As soon as we get there, Spider-Man starts wylin out. There is a large group of girls dancing around with some wall flower guys that are with them are standing around. So Spidey is being hilarious bouncing around and drawing attention of mad people. So Sigma and I join in, the ?dancing? The girls are still doing there own thing, but do kinda laugh, at this point not really sure if its with or at him. But anyways, so because we are all looking like we are having a good time, crazy dancing, some of the wall flower guys start joining in, doing funny shit. Within 10 minutes, we have been integrated into the group of girls and everyone is having an awesome time.

Meanwhile, Spidey has officially taken control of this dance floor. Everyone is looking to see what he does next, regardless of whether they are laughing at or with him. So then "Like a Prayer" goes on, of course by request of Spider-Man. Did I mention it was 80s night, apparently. Well this is his time to shine. So he basically gets like 15 people around us singing the song, and we look up and the people at a table start joining in as well. So after the song Stefano goes up stairs, next thing I know he comes down and somehow has manages to get a Rose from these girls upstairs, how cute. Anyone so we all continue having a good time, and these two other dudes join in, cause of course they wanna be our friends, cause we run this shit. So I look over and Spidey is passing this Rose to this girl that completely ignored him like a half hour earlier in the night.

So finally we decide its time to go, after dancing with mad ladies, and having probably the best Valentines Day I have had in quite a long time, and maybe ever, ha.

We are on our way out, and Spider-Man is finishing wishing all the girls Happy V-s Day, and those two guys that were trying to be our friends come up to Spidey. They ask him if he is that guy on tv that helps all the dorky guys, pick up girls. Ha, I still can't believe these dudes actually confused Spider-Man with Mystery, that's awesome.

This was a night of great fun, and Spider-Man is becoming master of all domains, lol.

This is how we roll.

Viva Viagra

Wow, I just saw the funniest commercial ever. Some guy rolls by this woman's house and honks his horn and drive away, like hes a neighbor. They show like this happen like 3 times. The 4th time the guy rolls up in a motorcycle, and the announcer says "Don't let erectile dysfunction get you down" meanwhile in the backround is play Viva Las Vegas. Too bad the lyrics were changed to Viva Viagra. Hilarious.

Bored at Work

So while I wait for my 7,000,000 Journal Entry File to load into the Journal Entry Tool, I decided to write something. Yea, sounds exciting doesn't it.

So today is Valentines Day. Who cares?

So I may have seen Jason Kidd's last game on the NJ Nets. My bro and I went to the Nets game Tuesday night to watch the Timberwolves play the Nets. What a snoozer this game was. The score was 38-35 at half.

However, I did witness one of the most pathetic sports moments I have ever seen. At some point near the end of the first quarter, they announce that everyone from the top tier can now come down to the bottom tier. How pathetic is that? The Nets cant even bring in a crowd anymore. They really do need to trade Kidd and start over again.

I don't really have much else to blog about right now. Once you start working the week brings nothing but boringness. I go to work, go to the gym, and go home and watch tv. So stay in school as long as you can.
